Sexual Harassment 101: What You Need To Know
You would have heard about the #metoo movement. Some of us would have followed the movement since it became viral back in October 2017 when American actress, Alyssa Milano, tweeted, “If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote ‘Me Too’ as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.”
However, you may not be aware that it was Tarana Burke, a social activist and community organiser, who began using the phrase “Me Too” in 2006, on MySpace to promote “empowerment through empathy” among women of colour who had been sexually abused.
Sexual harassment in all its forms is a common worldwide issue today. Despite it being so, it remains complex and confusing for many.
Once you steer away from the #metoo campaigns, news, viral stories, and the many debates about sexual harassment, the question many are still looking for an answer to is, “what is sexual harassment- and how do we deal with this issue?”
Sheroes.my in collaboration with the Association of Women Lawyers (AWL) will bring you back to the basics via an upcoming webinar, “Sexual Harassment 101: What you need to know?” Join field experts, Ms. Santhi Latha (President, Association of Women Lawyers) and Ms. Sheena Gurbakhash (President, 2019/2021, Association of Women Lawyers) as they take you through the introduction to sexual harassment, while providing resources for those who have, or are experiencing it.
